This session is such a blessing. A blessing because last year, we didn’t think it would be able to happen. This is my cousin Mark and his beautiful fiancé Jenny! Last summer, Mark suffered from necrotic pancreatitis and was in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at OSF in Peoria. It was touch and go for months, we thought we were going to lose him. They ended up having to remove 2/3 of his pancreas. I was there a lot, and I have to say that Jenny truly showed what love is because she stayed by his side the whole time. All while taking care of her beautiful little boy at home. They had an amazing relationship before, but it doesn’t even compare to what they have now.
So the fact that I was able to shoot this session, and show just how amazing Mark is doing, is a blessing. We had a blast doing this shoot too! It was my first time out at Hornbaker Gardens, and oh. my. gosh. It is BEAUTIFUL! I will definitely be going back for more shoots! Once again, I’ve lived in this area my entire life and I don’t know how I have never been out there! Maybe their cat will photobomb my other shoots too (see below)! But the location isn’t even the best part of these photos because look at those two! Jenny wasn’t too happy when I told them my rule for engagement shoots is the groom to be can tickle the bride to be anytime he feels like it, but I don’t think I even needed that because they were so cute together anyways.
The day Mark proposed, Jenny thought she was getting a new car. So when he called and said he had a surprise for her, she thought it was the car they had looked at earlier that day, then was thoroughly disappointed when she got home to no car…but once she opened the envelope he handed her with a note inside that said “Will you marry me?” I’m pretty sure her disappointment vanished. These photos just go to show how happy she is it was a ring and not a car!
