Christmas cards? Now?! Yes I know, I’m getting a little ahead of myself and am not one to rush through the year to get to Christmas, but…who says your Christmas Card photo has to LOOK like a Christmas photo?
I love sending out Christmas Cards. It’s when I get to share a little piece of our family to all of my extended family that might not have social media. It means the world to my great aunts and family friends that I don’t get to see that played a huge role in my life. Even if the card gets thrown away as soon as the decorations come down, the feeling they get when they open it makes it worth it for the extra effort on my part. I like making people feel special.
And being the aesthetic loving person I am, I want to make sure that card looks fabulous and different than any other card on the fridge. Which is one of the many reasons why we usually have our family photos done when everything is still green! GASP! Getting photos done without all the fall color?! Am I crazy?! I know, but here’s the deal. I personally love the look of spring and summer, and also, trying to get in the small window Mother Nature gives us of actual fall colors is almost impossible!
But these are the 3 top reasons to get your Christmas Card photos done in the summer:
1. More Availability
There’s more availability on your part and mine. Kids aren’t in school during the summer and have less activities going on at night, which means more options for you to schedule. And with the sun setting later, you will have more time to get the family ready after work. Also, since summertime lasts so much longer than the short 1 month period to try and get fall color, I have many more options for dates to choose from. October always books up extremely fast, which means if you wait too long, you might not get a booking and the last thing I want is to not have any availability for you. This also means if the weather acts up, we also have more options to reschedule photos.
2. You Won’t Feel Rushed
While I have an extremely fast turn around time, the last thing you want is to feel like you don’t have time to order Christmas Cards. By getting family photos done in the summer, you get to actually relax during the holiday season instead of feeling like you either need to rush and slap a photo on a card, or even not getting out cards at all.
3. Better Weather
We live in Illinois where the weather is ridiculously unpredictable. One year we have an unusually warm fall, the next we get snow in October. You never know what to expect which means that really cute short sleeve top might end up causing you to freeze, or that adorable scarf might make you sweat like you just ran a marathon. At least during the summer, you have a pretty good idea of what to expect. And let’s be honest, little ones do much better getting their photo when it’s nice out!
